What’s your background, and what motivates you to do what you do?
I went to art school before I pursued a career in fashion. Now my background is in fashion design and luxury retail. I am motivated by my passion and the desire to always be creative.
How would you describe your brand?
The label is known for its sport-luxe aesthetic, focused on technical fabrics and streamlined silhouettes. It offers an exceptional blend of style, function and unexpected detail. The brand is built on the principles of utility, luxury and ease with high standards of finishing and beautiful fabrics. We source a variety of fabrics from Italy, France and other parts of Europe, but the line itself is made entirely in Canada.
What is your designing process?
I start each collection by researching the mood I want to focus on for the season. I try to finalize a few key ideas before I start sketching. I am influenced by the fabrics I source from Europe, and often bring back ideas from traveling. I work with my patternmaker on developments in-house. Once the collection starts taking a solid direction, we move on to new patterns, testing and sampling.
What does success look like to you?
Success is growing as a designer and a brand. Down the road, I’d love to have representation in international markets.Thoughts on Canada’s fashion industry: “I’d like to see a larger acceptance for home-grown talent. That would help many of aspects of the industry.”
